Cultural Immersion Program - Judges Visit the Kimberley
In September 2022, 26 judges of the District, Supreme and Federal Courts headed to the Kimberley to take part in a Cultural Immersion Program. The trip was hosted by the University of Notre Dame in Broome. It was designed to give the judges a greater understanding of Aboriginal culture, history and language so that they can be more aware of the challenges that may be faced by Aboriginal people when they attend court.
Equal Justice Bench Book
The Equal Justice Bench Book is intended to provide WA judicial officers with an understanding of the range of values, cultures, lifestyles and life experiences of people from different backgrounds, together with an understanding of the potential difficulties, barriers or inequities people from different backgrounds may face in relation to court proceedings.
It offers practical examples of how to take appropriate account of these differences in court and tribunal proceedings.
